I liked the focus on being confident in what we were doing—both before and while interacting with the cadaver.
Thank you so much. For literally everything. This program has legitimately changed my life, the course of my life, and me as a person. I am indebted to the Orthopaedic Foundation. I am truly so so lucky to have applied on a whim.
I’ve always wanted to go into surgery, particularly neurosurgery and this opportunity has not only solidified my goal to become a surgeon but also sparked a potential job in orthopedic surgery.
Throughout the week, I felt more comfortable working with the cadavers and thought it was interesting to visually see the organization of the body parts and touch a human brain!
This program has been life-changing for students. Many of our attendees leave the camp excited about a career in medicine.
Being able to bond with people from all across the continent, even with the intense schedule, allowed me to have fun while learning at the same time. In this way, the camp was not only a jammed-packed medical camp but also an amazing social experience and an opportunity to connect with others.
This camp offered something unique that I am not aware of something similar in the market. I was very impressed with the opportunity to work with cadavers, a sampler of many different medical topics, and the formal dinner arrangement.
I have considered a medical pathway for quite some time, and this program seemed incredibly helpful in determining if surgery or research would be most suited for me in the future. There is no other experience as unique as this one, and I found it to be a wonderful opportunity for gaining firsthand experience.
The program truly exceeded my expectations and opened my eyes up to the world of medicine in a way I never could have imagined.
The Manhattan Medical Immersion Camp stood out to our family in all aspects. Being able to explore and work on real cadavers and examine different medical fields by working with physicians side by side were the two highlights of the program.
Chris Rish was an excellent mentor! I loved his teaching style (jump in and try after showing us once). It pushed me out of my comfort zone without overwhelming, the sweet spot of learning.
My favorite part of the program was every time we worked in the lab. There was always something new to learn. It really boosted everyone’s confidence to do things that we had never imagined ourselves doing before.
The kids received a medical school type experience that they likely wouldn’t even get in college. It gave my daughter the ability to explore whether she would like to really be a doctor.
I realized I never had truly a hands-on medical learning experience and this camp certainly fulfilled that. Previously, all I have ever done was dissections on animals in school, but this camp put everything in a medical-specialty context that would directly apply to actual humans—an experience not frequently found.
I did not expect us to be working with cadavers every day. I loved how small of a group it was and how close I was able to get with the people in the program… I left the camp feeling more assured than ever that surgery is for me and I have not stopped talking about the experience since I got home.
The commitment of each of the doctors and speakers was really wonderful to see, as well as the diversity and range of areas of medicine covered. The program lived up to its name as an “immersive” experience.
Being around so many doctors allowed for any of my questions to be answered… fully dissecting a real arm and leg gave me a lot of inspiration for what I’d like to research.
We have had an incredible week and I am so privileged to know that we have made a positive impact on these teens.
